When to Visit Ksamil: Picking the Right Month for You
Ksamil's season runs from May to October; outside that window the town is mostly shut.
Within those six months, though, everything changes: same beach, double the prices and triple the crowds between June and August.
Month by month, here is what to really expect.
May — The month for gamblers
Air at 22-27°C, sea at 19-21°C: you can swim, just not for hours. Half the businesses are open, prices are the season's lowest (rooms from €20-40).
Best for: anyone who wants the town empty and accepts the risk of an odd grey day. Boat tours are already running, with few seats taken.
June — The first sweet spot
Sea at 23-24°C, long days, 28-31°C, and beach clubs not yet packed. Prices still civilised: 20-30% below August.
Everything is running, from the islands tour to snorkeling, and the water is at its clearest. For many people this is the best balance of sea, price and crowds.
July and August — Everything at maximum, including crowds
30-34°C, sea at 25-27°C, almost guaranteed zero rain. Along with that: full beach clubs from 9:00, restaurant queues, double the June prices and traffic on the Saranda road.
Honestly: if you can choose, skip the first two weeks of August — the absolute peak. If it's your only window: book accommodation and tours months ahead and get out early in the morning.
September — The second sweet spot
The sea stays warm (24-26°C, the warmest of the year) because it has stored heat all summer, but tourists thin out from the very first week. Prices drop 25-40%.
Evenings stay long and the sunset cruise is at its best in September, with the sun lower and the air clearer.
October and winter — How far can you push it
First half of October: often still 22-26°C and sea around 22°C, with gorgeous days alternating with rain. Many businesses close mid-month and tours wind down.
From November to April Ksamil is effectively asleep: hotels closed, Corfu ferries reduced. You come for Butrint and the quiet, not for the sea.
